Digaden Parson Russell Terriers
My interest in terriers came from a young age, I grew up surrounded by ponies and scruffy
terriers causing a little foray wherever we went, then when I was old enough to go hunting, I
was keen to learn what the terrier work involved at the back of the field as well as watching
the hounds working ahead of the field. I bought my first terrier at the age of 16, from a lady
called Mrs Biggins and so I called her Biggins! About a year later I bought my second terrier
called Humbug and this is where my passion for terriers started. I attended Crufts every year
with my Mum as a visitor and I always hoped that one day I would be showing my dogs on
the green carpet, eventually I bought my first registered KC Parson Russell Terrier. I did not
have much success with her, but she was a little gem and taught me so much about
handling, grooming and the do’s and don’ts of showing. From then I slowly started to build
up my own kennel of Parsons. I joined the Assured Breeder Scheme and several years ago I
was delighted to be invited by the Kennel Club to take part in three films all about breeding
which are still on the Kennel Club website today. To date I have bred three champions
myself and I have made up five champions in total. In 2020 I started to learn agility and now I
regularly compete with some of my dogs. I took over as Breed Club Secretary from the late
Ruth Wilford and this has also been very educational and enjoyable. I started judging
Parsons in 2011 and I now award CC’s, my next appointment is in November 2024 at the
Parson Russell Terrier Club Championship Show. I was invited to judge in Norway in 2017
which was the most fantastic and enjoyable weekend to remember. I am honoured to be
invited to judge in Sweden this summer and I would like to thank the Committee for their kind
invitation.
